Clothing Swap is here again
The Starbuck Horizon III group is sponsoring the Semi-Annual Community “Clothing Swap” on October 14 and 15 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home Commons.Community members are invited to drop off clothes they don’t want on Friday Oct. 14 from 5-7:30 p.m. in the commons area. On Oct. 15 people can pick up clothes they do want between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the commons area. This is a completely free event with no obligation to bring or take anything. They will have bags there to fill or people can bring their own.
“It is an opportunity to clean out your closets and donate clothing you or your family are no longer using or trade clothing that other people are getting rid of for you or your family with no money being exchanged,” Audrey Erickson said. “You do not have to donate clothing in order to come to the event nor do you have to swap clothing if you just are in a situation that you’d like to donate clothing. It is really a win, win for everyone.”
To help out the group it would be very helpful if brought in clothing is bagged/boxed according to general size and male/female/children, to simplify the sorting process for setting up and organizing the event.
Erickson said the idea for this event came from the community of Hoffman who has been doing it for a number of years and it has turned in to a big event that many of the community members get involved in.The left over clothing will be donated to the local clothing bank in Pope County which in turn is sold for a very nominal fee. The proceeds are what help pay the overhead to maintain the building that houses the food shelf and clothing bank.
